12 Days of Christmas Giving Tips – Days 9-12

Looking for ideas to maximize your end of year giving? Follow along with us as we cover 12 tips for giving this Christmas season.

Missed the tips from the first 8 days? Check out days 1-4 here and days 5-8 here.

Day 9: Review Your Previous Year of Giving

What organizations have you supported this year? Which of these gifts or areas of work are most inspiring to you? Thinking back on the gifts from the last year can help you identify areas you would like to support next year and can be the first step in creating a more intentional plan for your philanthropy.

Now is also a good time to make sure you supported all the organizations you care about. Look back on your year of giving – are there any organizations you forgot to support this year?

Consider a Donor Advised Fund to simplify your giving! When you use a DAF to grant to the charities you love, your history of gifts for the year is in one convenient location

Day 10: Make a Giving Goal for 2023

Did you have a plan for your philanthropy this year? Setting goals has been shown to increase a donor’s likelihood of giving more.[1] Take some time this end of year to think about areas of work you care about (outreach to those in need, education, religion, health, environment, etc.) and focus on an area or two that you want to be sure to support next year. Set a goal for the amount you want to give and the timing. You don’t have to wait until the end of the year to do your giving – pick a time when you aren’t busy with Christmas shopping and other holiday tasks!

Day 11: Take Advantage of Matches at Charities

Tis the season for matching gifts! Many of the charities you support might have the opportunity to double your impact during the holiday season. Find out if your gift can help the charity meet their matching goal.

Have you considered helping a charity you love start a matching gift campaign? Speak to the staff of the charity to see if you can give a major gift (or get a group of donors together to make a major gift) which can serve as the matching money for the campaign. Matches are very effective for getting donors involved and reaching specific fundraising goals.

Day 12: Tribute and Memorial Gifts

Merry Christmas! As we celebrate with family and friends, we also take time to remember those who are no longer with us. Have you considered donating to an organization in honor of your loved one this season? This is a beautiful way to have the memory of your loved ones live on and continue to make a positive impact on the community they cared about.

You can make a tribute gift to any fund of the Foundation via our online giving forms or by calling or emailing us to give us the details of your gift. We can send a card of recognition to a recipient to let them know about a gift you’ve made on behalf of someone else.
